What to Expect

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Jesup, GA

We are glad to have you visit our website. Please take a look around and see what First Baptist has to offer. We hope that you will come and worship with us. There is a place for you and your family at First Baptist.

What are the service times?

On Sunday mornings our Connection Groups meet for Bible Study and fellowship at 9:15am and the Worship service is at 10:30am. Our Sunday evening service is at 6:00pm and Wednesday evening services are at 6:15 pm following our Family Night Supper at 5:15pm.

How do I get to First Baptist?

We’re near downtown Jesup at the corner of Brunswick and Cherry Streets. The easiest way to find us is if you are anywhere near the center of Jesup look for the tall steeple and head towards it.

Where do I park?

We have guest parking reserved near our sanctuary entrance on Brunswick street.

Is there handicap access?

There are handicap parking spaces in all the parking lots and there is street level access at the main entrance drop off area. Our greeters will help you into the building, and once inside, our ushers will help you to a seat. The worship center easily accommodates wheelchairs. We strive to be available to everyone regardless of physical or mental condition.

Is there childcare available?

While you are in a Bible study class your child will also be in an age graded class with caring teachers who will help your child learn about God. During worship we offer “Extended Session” for those birth through age four. As the name implies, this time "extends" the learning that your child experiences in Bible study. For Kindergarten through Grade 5 we encourage Children's Worship groups but they may stay with you in worship if you feel it necessary.

What happens before the service starts?

If you arrive early, you can wait in the front lobby area and meet friends, or you can move on into the worship center and find a seat. As you enter the sanctuary you will receive a bulletin which gives you information about the ministries and activities of the church during coming weeks.

What happens if I arrive late?

Don't worry. Our ushers will help you find a seat as quickly as possible. You can enter the sanctuary at any point in our service.

How are guests greeted?

Before worship our greeters and ushers will warmly welcome you to our church. During worship our pastor will ask everyone to stand and greet those around them. Our ushers give a card to first time guests which you can use to let us know how to pray for you or meet whatever need you have. You can place that card in the offering plate.

Will I know when to stand?

Our Music Minister will often ask the congregation to stand or sit. We generally stand for the singing of congregational songs.

Am I expected to give for the offering?

While we encourage the practice of tithing among our members, our guests are not expected to give anything. During the offering, if you have filled in the guest card, you can place it in the offering plate.

What is the message like?

Pastor Mike’s messages last about 25-30 minutes and are based on the Bible. He will read scripture, make several points of application to our lives, and often includes humorous or motivational stories.

What is the "invitation" time?

At the end of the pastor's message he will give an invitation to anyone who does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ to accept Jesus. He will also ask those who would like to become part of our church family to come forward. We sing a song during this time so that people can come to the front and talk to our pastor or one of our other ministers about their needs. If you would like to become a part of First Baptist Church you can join:

By profession of faith - if you are not yet a Christian but would like to be, or if you are a Christian and have never been baptized by immersion as a believer, a prayer partner will pray with you and guide you in this decision.

By transfer of letter - If you are a Christian and a member of another church we will write to that church and request that a letter of transfer be sent.

By statement - If you are a Christian and have been baptized as a believer, but do not have a current membership in another church, we can receive your membership on your statement of having received Christ and been baptized.
